Walleye Tour Championship

September 30, 2008 • Brett Carlson • Angler Columns

Just got back from Bismarck, the site of the Walleye Tour Championship. What a healthy fishery – there are 2- and 3-pound walleyes up and down the Missouri River. The tricky part is learning how to navigate the river and how to adjust as water levels fluctuate.

Mr. April, Tommy Skarlis, won by rigging and jigging with night crawlers near Beaver Creek. Skarlis always has plenty to say so both my pen and my ears got a workout this week. But that is OK because Skarlis is a great ambassador of our sport. Here’s a kid from Iowa who never graduated from college and he’s paying his billsbyliving his dream.

With the walleye season nowover, I turn my attention to kingfish and bass. I will be in Wilmington, N.C., in three weeks for the final Kingfish Tour qualifier and then in Branson,Mo.,the first week in November for the Stren Championship on Table Rock.

Look for the 2009 walleye schedule soon.
