Veterans Days - Major League Fishing

Veterans Days

November 11, 2008 • Curt Niedermier • Angler Columns

Here at FLWOutdoors, we are lucky to be associated with the National Guard. Some of the best anglers in tournament fishing wear the National Guard jersey, and Walmart FLWSeries National Guard Western Division tournaments frequently put out some of bass fishing’s biggest weights. On top of that, National Guard FLWCollege Fishing is set to start real soon.

Thanks to the relationship between FLWOutdoors and the National Guard, we get the chance to thank our veterans, honor our troops and show respect to the flag at every FLWOutdoors tournament alongside the very men and women who have pledged to protect our freedoms here in the United States of America. Along with that, we should all remember to give a little thanks every dayfor what they do and have done for us.

Today, however, is even more special. It’s Veterans Day. And in addition to celebrations around the country, I think it’s important to shed a little light on the history of Veterans Day. So, I did a little research and came across this Web site: It has some good information about how the holiday came to be from what was once known as Armistice Day.

Check out the history, and take some time to think about what it must have been like to be an American when WorldWar I ended. Think about the unity ofa nation that hadpulled together and made the sacrifices needed to win the war and their relief that it was ending. But alsothink about the sacrifices being made today by soldiers and their families. To them Isay, “Thank you.”

Happy Veterans Day.
