Rain, wind and walleyes

September 23, 2010 • Sean Ostruszka • Angler Columns

We have seen a lot of things since coming up to Walker, Minn. The sun isn’t one of them.

While we drove up in gorgeous weather, our presence in the Gopher State has been welcomed with an unending ceiling of clouds, gusting winds and a leaky drizzle of rain.

Luckily, the walleyes don’t seem to mind. Yesterday morning, the lone time we saw the sun, was one of my most fun days of taking photos this year. We pulled up on a spot that had the eventual top two anglers for the day and watched them and a few other pros put on a show. Every time I focused in to take photos of one fish being caught, another pro was setting the hook. It was downright awesome.

Today was a bit tougher, with the wind switching for the fourth time this week and some downright ugly conditions. However, we watched a few pros catch them pretty well, and after talking with some guys yesterday at weigh-in, the weather may help.

Basically, it’s a tough bite, but as always, the best seem to rise.

Slam the hooks!
