After spending a quick week at home (and a date night at one of New Orleans’ iconic restaurants), we moved on to the next Major League Fishing event in Texas. Lake Fork is only six hours from home for us, making it the closest tournament we’ll have this year. We were graciously hosted by the Yamamoto team at Sugoi Lakes Lodge in Mineola, Texas. The lodge provided a great space to cook for our large group, including family that traveled to the tournament with us. Boiled crawfish was a must-have, and social distancing was starting to impact some restaurants. Nevertheless, here’s a look at a few of the places we found during Stage Three at Lake Fork, Texas.
Lunch/Dinner Recommendation: The Jalapeño Tree
The Jalapeño Tree is known for its “crazy good Mexican food” throughout East Texas, including its location near Lake Fork in Mineola, Texas. Everyone enjoyed the food, especially the Carne Asada. It’s my go-to at Mexican restaurants, but this cut of meat and the way they prepared it was a step above everywhere else. They advertise lots of different margaritas using the Fat Tuesday Margarita mix, but we discovered the best way to go was to pick your tequila and ask the bartender to make yours from scratch. They were a 10/10 and were gone before we could get a picture!
You know how most restaurants have bottles of ketchup on the table? Well at The Jalapeño Tree, it was Parkay. Why the “I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter” squeeze bottles were there, and what we were supposed to use them on was one thing that left us with questions after dinner!
Day Trip Recommendation: The Pink Pistol & Red 55 Winery
So you want to take your dream fishing trip to Lake Fork and are looking for something for the wives to do when they’ve had enough of the water? Just a short drive south of Lake Fork is the small town of Lindale, Texas. Lindale is the hometown of country superstar Miranda Lambert and home to her store The Pink Pistol. A mix of funky home furnishings, concert tees, and boutique clothes, this store is definitely worth the road trip whether you’re a Miranda fan or not. Even better, inside the store is Red 55 Winery. Hang out in a cozy tasting room decorated with Miranda’s dad’s spectacular mounts while sipping on wines harvested by her parents and named after her best-selling albums and songs. And if you are a Miranda fan, the bartender told us that she does visit the store a few times each month, so there’s a good chance you may get to meet her during your visit!

We will all need to get creative this month as we follow social distancing recommendations, and we hope we can keep you entertained and give you ideas on how to keep eating, drinking, and fishing like we all love to do!
