At the start of the day, Zack Birge was looking at an uphill battle if he wanted to earn the automatic advancement to the Championship Round of the Berkley Stage Two Presented by Mercury: Birge had to beat Jacob Wheeler, who started Group B’s Qualifying Day 2 with 10 pounds more than him.
Birge was able to close the gap and take the leading spot on SCORETRACKER® away from Wheeler. At the end of the day, Birge’s cumulative two-day total weight was 67-4, Wheeler’s was 58-3. That means he will skip Tuesday’s Knockout Round and will compete in the Championship Round on Wednesday.
After he pulled his boat out of the water, Birge explained what it means to him to have a one-in-10 shot at taking home a Bass Pro Tour trophy.
