KISSIMMEE, Fla. – There are a few young anglers in Sunday’s Championship Round of the MLF Bass Pro Tour B&W Trailer Hitches Stage One Presented by Power-Pole. Jordan Lee and Dustin Connell are both under 30 years old, but the youngest angler competing in today’s Championship Round is 26-year-old Alton Jones, Jr.

Jones landed 19 bass for 33 pounds, 8 ounces during Saturday’s Knockout Round. That weight pushed him into fifth place and put him in the first-ever Bass Pro Tour Championship Round.

“This is my first opportunity to go into the final day of an event to win a trophy like that,” Jones explained. “There’s only one trophy and these 10 guys want it really bad.”

“Junior”, as he is affectionately known by some, is the son of MLF pro Alton Jones, Sr., a six-time winner who has earned nearly $3 million in winnings. While his father did not make the cut this week, Jones, Sr. made sure to give his son a call to wish him good luck.

“He told me how proud he was of me,” Jones said. “He said that they would be praying for me and that I need to go win it.”

The Texas native will have to beat out some big names if he wants to take home the $100,000 prize and the Stage One trophy. Jordan Lee, Edwin Evers, Randy Howell, and Takahiro Omori are just a few of the hammers in the Championship Round on Lake Garcia. When Jones, Jr. sees his name on the list of MLF pros who could take home the inaugrual Bass Pro Tour trophy, he can’t help but smile.

“It makes me really proud. It proves to myself that I belong in the same group as these guys,” Jones said with a smile. “Hopefully I can come away with the win, but when it’s your time it’s your time, my fingers are just crossed that Sunday is my time.”
