Georgetown College teammates Mike Huff and Nick Huff share their thoughts on qualifying for the 2013 FLW College Fishing National Championship

Q&A

CollegeFishing.com: How were you introduced to fishing?

Mike Huff: I was introduced to fishing by my dad and granddad literally before I could walk. I can remember bluegill fishing at the pond down the street at a very early age. Nick and I would be there every day during the summer. Our family owned a boat dealership and a tackle store, so we really had no choice but to love fishing from the start.

Nick Huff: I was introduced to fishing by my granddad and uncle before I could walk. I remember sitting in my grandfather’s lap watching Bill Dance fishing shows on TV when I was young. My uncle took my cousin and me down to the neighborhood pond to catch bluegill and bass almost daily until we were old enough to go by ourselves. When that happened, we both pretty much lived at the pond.

CollegeFishing.com: What style/method of fishing are you most comfortable with?

Mike Huff: It doesn’t get much better than flipping/pitching. That’s always my first choice, but I’m comfortable throwing anything that I can catch fish on.

Nick Huff: I love flipping and pitching. If a tournament can be won on a jig, I’ll be throwing it.

CollegeFishing.com: What did it feel like to qualify for the 2013 FLW College Fishing National Championship? How do you plan to prepare for the big event?

Mike Huff: It’s maybe the most exciting thing that’s ever happened to me! Yet like all competitors, Nick and I still aren’t satisfied. It’s such a great accomplishment to make it to the National Championship, but anything less than winning it all will be a disappointment. We plan on practicing a lot. We are going out to Beaver during our school’s spring break and will be spending a week on the lake.

Nick Huff: It felt great! We are both ecstatic about qualifying for the National Championship, but as great as an achievement as it is, we are still not satisfied. We don’t just want to be known as a team that qualified for the FLW National Championship. We want to be the team that wins it. For the week of our college’s spring break, we plan on driving out to Beaver Lake to practice.

CollegeFishing.com: Tell us something interesting about yourself that most people wouldn’t know.

Mike Huff: I’m a huge Kentucky basketball fan. My dad (Rex Huff) is actually chasing his dream and fishing the FLW Tour this year as a boater.

Nick Huff: I am a diehard University of Kentucky sports fan. I bleed blue.
