2014 Forrest Wood Cup to Air on NBC

If so, then you know what to expect when highlights from the 2014 Forrest Wood Cup presented by Walmart are aired Oct. 5 on FLW. The hour-long TV show will be broadcast by NBC beginning at 3 ET.

If you didn’t have the chance to attend the Aug. 14-17 event on Lake Murray near Columbia, S.C., get ready to witness the most exciting Forrest Wood Cup of them all.

The tournament was won by local favorite Anthony Gagliardi, but only after some of the most dramatic twists and turns, ups and downs that have ever graced this, the richest championship in bass fishing. On-the-water intensity was matched by the final weigh-in in the Colonial Life Arena, where a packed house went through some nail-biting moments as mere ounces decided who would get to take home the Cup.

After four days of nonstop drama, exhilarating highs and heartrending lows, a mere 11 ounces separated fifth-place pro Steve Kennedy of Alabama from Gagliardi. Indeed, Kennedy’s seemingly heaven-sent day of fishing in the championship round had some observers predicting that he would vault the field from 10th place into first and stage the greatest comeback in Cup history.

It didn’t happen, and Kennedy was one of three anglers at the final weigh-in who felt a brief surge of exhilaration followed by disappointment and dejection as the lead changed hands and Chevy pro Gagliardi seemingly fulfilled his destiny.

The show’s focus is on Gagliardi’s relentless march to the top, but it also details the agony that Straight Talk pro Scott Canterbury experienced when he lost the bass that would have won the championship’s $500,000 paycheck for him, Kennedy’s phenomenal rally and Brent Ehrler’s growing recognition that he would not be the first two-time winner of the Forrest Wood Cup – at least not this year.

It’s all there to share, Oct. 5 on NBC beginning at 3 PM ET. A follow-up showing will air the same day on NBC Sports at 7 PM ET.
