Beginner’s luck is credited for helping a Wisconsin angler win the annual Brainerd Jaycees $150,000 Ice Fishing Extravaganza. Andrew Schultz’s 7-pound, 2-ounce northern pike was the heaviest catch weight in, and earned the Dousman, Wis., fisherman a new pickup truck. Schultz was fishing in 11 feet of water using a minnow as bait.

The tournament, held on Gull Lake, attracted more than 10,000 participants, making it the world’s largest ice-fishing tournament. Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton was among the anglers who fished the event.
