CLEWISTON, Fla. – At 7 o’clock this morning, the Wal-Mart FLW Tour kicked off the 2001 season as 350 pros and co-anglers took off from Roland Martin’s Marina under a brilliant sunrise in Clewiston, Fla.
While temperatures hovered under 50 degrees, anglers bundled up and locked through onto the expanse of Lake Okeechobee for the first day of competition. Due to low water conditions on the massive lake, many anglers were headed to fish the rim canals where levels were more accessible, while others said they would risk the shallow Okeechobee flats.
