Weather clears; rising temperatures should spur bigger catches on day two

ALEXANDER CITY, Ala. – Mercifully, a warm sun rose in a clear blue sky over Lake Martin this morning, bringing with it the promise of more comfortable fishing conditions and bigger bass today.

Takeoff got underway as scheduled at 6:30 a.m. at Wind Creek State Park where most of the 350 Wal-Mart FLW Tour pros and co-anglers looked forward to a productive day two of fishing. While the bass bite was somewhat unseasonably slow yesterday due to cold, blustery weather that even produced some snow on Tuesday, Lake Martin looked ready this morning to start offering up its quarry. With temperatures slated to reach an afternoon high of 70 degrees, the buzz around the dock was that the fish would be more active today.

“I think it will get better as it warms up,” said co-angler Judy Israel of Clewiston, Fla., who sits in 44th place after day one. “They started to turn on yesterday afternoon.”

For a few anglers, however, Lake Martin’s muddier, high-level water and is still cause for concern.

“The weather won’t matter for me,” said Wesley Strader, a pro from Spring City, Tenn. He placed 112th yesterday. “The water coming up has affected me so much.”

Today’s weigh-in is scheduled to take place at 3 p.m. at Wind Creek State Park located about one mile east of Highway 63.
