Kentucky Lake Top 5 Patterns – Day 2
Offshore patterns both deep and shallow are producing
While Randy Haynes and Jason Lambert aim to duke it out at the top of the standings, the rest of the anglers in the top five will keep hunting and pecking for good bites and hoping the two hammers in front of them slip up just enough to make it interesting this weekend.
So far the FLW Tour presented by Costa Sunglasses on Kentucky Lake has been dominated offshore, but a variety of different offshore patterns are producing, and some folks have made the top 30 up on the bank.
Here’s how the rest of the top five made it to the weekend.

3. Scott Martin – Clewiston, Fla. – 37 pounds, 14 ounces
There’s only one thing Scott Martin has lacked the last two days that has kept him off the pace set by Haynes and Lambert: a kicker. He simply hasn’t gotten a big bite, despite catching 20 keepers today.
Martin is fishing a section of the lake where he’s caught some real giants in the past. If one or two of those shows up tomorrow, he might be able to close the gap and make it interesting.
“I made a little adjustment to a new spot I’d never fished,” says Martin. “The school was a little bit shallower. It was close to where a school of fish sits when the current is flowing. It’s where they go when the current is not running I think.”
The spot has a hard bottom thanks to some mussel shells, and is shallow enough that Martin was able to Power-Pole down and fish a worm and a few other baits.
The shallow shift was good for about 18 pounds. Once the current turned on later in the day, Martin slid back to his primary spot and culled up to 20 pounds using a crankbait and a jig.
4. Austin Felix – Eden Prairie, Minn. – 37 pounds, 5 ounces
Despite failing to catch a limit on day two, Austin Felix still managed to bring 17 pounds, 8 ounces to the scale. A lot of his weight came courtesy of a 6-11 kicker, but he also lost a nice one that allowed the leaders to open up a wide margin ahead of him.
“I had five bites all day,” Felix says. “I caught one bass off of anything I caught them on yesterday. The rest came off new stuff.
“I have an idea of what I think I can gets bites off of, but I don’t know the lake well enough to know where to find much of it.”

5. Josh Douglas – Isle, Minn. – 37 pounds, 2 ounces
Like Haynes, Josh Douglas has leaned really hard on one key school of bass for two days. The school is situated on a key current break along a ledge. But unlike Haynes, Douglas is confident he has several similar areas where he can get bites this weekend should he need to call an audible.
“I went straight to where I caught all of them yesterday,” Douglas says. “The dudes that were on that ledge were awesome. They stayed off of it [the specific spot he’s targeting].”
Douglas caught a couple keepers with power-fishing baits right off the bat. After that, he had to pick up a spinning rod to finish out a 14-pound limit.
The turning point in his day was when his co-angler fired a cast way out off the ledge and hooked up. Douglas realized the fish had pulled out into deeper water. He backed off, too, and culled up close to his final weight by fishing in 35 feet of water.
Douglas eventually did a little running and checking. He was able to cull again and eventually finished with 17-8.
“I have four or five more spots I haven’t touched, and I’m looking forward to getting on them and seeing what I can do,” he says.
