Capt. Blake Smith was presented with the 2019 Forrest L. Wood Sportsmanship & Community Leadership Award by the award’s namesake, Forrest Wood, at the 2019 FLW Cup pre-tournament banquet in Hot Springs, Ark. Smith, of Lakeland, Fla., has fished the FLW Tour since 2015.
Each year, FLW accepts nominations for the award from anglers, staff and members of the fishing industry. Smith’s nomination was well earned. He conducts upward of 30 community outreach events around the country each year, ranging from Christian programs to Meet the Pros nights in the communities that host FLW Tour events. Smith is also a regular volunteer for FLW’s community outreach programs.
Smith travels the country with his wife, Meagan, and their four daughters. He is respected by his peers as a hard worker, a gentleman and a loving father who is willing to pitch in to help anyone in need. Blake is never without a smile and is a passionate promoter of the sport of fishing.
He’s a fine example of a sportsman and a leader within the fishing community.
