Edward Adams of Egg Harbor, N.J., held on to his lead in the Co-angler Division to win with a two-day total of 20 pounds, 2 ounces. This was Adams first EverStart tournament, and he won $5,000 for his co-angler victory.

Adams, who fished with pro champion Schwier today, knows a thing or two about Lake Okeechobee. He guided on the big lake from 1984 to 1990.

“This is quite a feeling,” he said after winning. “These EverStarts are great tournaments. These folks know how to do it right.”

Adams fished an 11-inch Zoom redbug worm on a 3/16-ounce weight to catch his fish today.

“I got to the finals using a green-pumpkin Senko,” he said. “But it was too windy to throw that today, so I started digging around in my pro’s plastics for some of the worms he was throwing, and that’s what I caught my fish on.”

Marks finishes second

Rodney Marks of Apopka, Fla., finished second in the Co-angler Division with a two-day total of 17 pounds, 10 ounces.

Marks made the finals fishing a spinner bait, but yesterday he discovered a top-water pattern.

“I caught a few fish on a Devil’s Horse yesterday afternoon,” he said. “And that’s what I caught all my fish on today.”

Rest of the best

Rounding out the top 10 in the Co-angler Division are the following anglers: Kevin Jenckes of New Durham, N.H., third, with a two-day total of 13 pounds, 11 ounces; Ken Crumpler of Marianna, Fla., fourth, with a two-day total of 13 pounds, 5 ounces; Billy Cason of High Springs, Fla., fifth, with a two-day total of 12 pounds, 7 ounces; Asa Godsey of Clewiston, Fla., sixth, with a two-day total of 11 pounds, 11 ounces; Lonnie Fuller of Hemphill, Texas, seventh, with a two-day total of 11 pounds, 8 ounces; Walter Whitman of Greensboro, N.C., eighth, with a two-day total of 11 pounds, 2 ounces; Terry Bell of Sebring, Fla., ninth, with a two-day total of 8 pounds, 13 ounces; Kenneth Owens of Wise, Va., 10th, with a two-day total of 7 pounds, 1 ounces.
