LEESBURG, Fla. – Nate Bloom of Winter Springs, Fla., won the Strike King Co-angler title in the Toyota Series Presented by A.R.E. Southern Division event on the Harris Chain with a three-day total of 37 pounds, 10 ounces.

During the week, Bloom fished with pros Mitch Liss, Kacy Mims and Andrew Ready to catch limits of 11-13, 15-0 and 10-13, respectively.

His go-to bait for the event was a Zoom Ultravibe Speed Worm in June bug red topped with a 1/8-ounce weight, tied to 20-pound-test Seaguar Red Label fished on a 7-foot, 3-inch 13 Fishing Omen Black rod.

β€œThat was the set up that I caught my limits on,” Bloom said. β€œIt worked great for catching keepers up to 2-1/2 pounds.”

Once Bloom secured his limit, he would switch to 13 Fishing Fate Black spinning rod with 10-pound-test Sufix 832 braid tied to 10-pound-test Red Label fluorocarbon to target bigger fish.

β€œI know it may sound odd to go to a lighter set up to catch bigger fish,” he explained. β€œBut I was fishing a bigger 7-inch (Yamamoto) Senko with a 1/8-ounce weigh on the spinning rod and that combination worked better for me when dragging around in the wind in the back of the boat. That lighter line cut the wind and water better and helped that Senko look more natural.”

The bigger Senko on the light line landed Bloom a 6 1/2-pounder yesterday and a 3-pounder today, which helped him win the tournament.

β€œIt’s great to win with family and friends here,” Bloom added. β€œThere is a lot of pressure fishing at home because everyone wants me to do well, so I just focused on going out there and having fun each day and it added up to a pretty fun week.”
