The final day of the Toyota Series presented by A.R.E. Southwestern Division event on Lake Texoma is looking like a grinder. With mostly gloomy skies and light wind, the conditions aren’t really helping much either. Still, the afternoon bite has been best all week, and there’s shaping up to be a little more sun before weigh-in which could help things.
Going out with the lead, Evan Barnes caught a 2-pounder early and didn’t add to it for the next hour or so. There’s a lot of mystery left with Barnes, but he certainly didn’t close it out in style early.
In second, Blake Schroeder got off to about the same start. With a 2-pounder in the livewell early, Schroeder spent the next hour or so not catching them.
Behind the leaders, there are a lot of incomplete limits as well. Shawn Temple and Chad Mrazek both had a small keeper in the boat and nothing more when we found them mid-morning. Later in the morning, Billy Cline checked in with one 3-pounder. Similarly, James Ware had just one fish when we found him.
Cameron Mattison might be the big mover of the day. With a 4-pounder in the ‘well and two to go with it, he’s having the best day of anyone we found by a mile. Still, he’s a good bit off the lead, so he’ll really need things to line up to end up with the trophy after weigh-in.
The key to the day is really going to be watching weigh-in. Starting at 3:30 p.m. CT, and live online, it’s looking like this is going to go down to the wire.
