Idaho pro Cody Meyer has fished professional tournaments just about everywhere in the country. In his experience, there is one bait in particular that he never wants to leave his home without, and that’s a Strike King Rage Bug.
Meyer detailed five different reasons he loves the Strike King Rage Bug and why he relies on it, no matter where he’s traveling.
Versatility is a big factor for any angler when choosing a go-to bait. It also helps when that same bait comes in multiple sizes. That variety is a major factor for Meyer.
“This bait is so versatile thanks to the different sizes in comes in,” Meyer said. “They have a 3-inch and even a 4.5-inch Magnum for even bigger applications. My favorite, though, is the 4-inch model that represents crawdads and bluegills anywhere you go in the country. It’s going to get bit because of its similarities to those baits in size.”
Continuing with the theme of versatility, the Rage Bug isn’t just for one particular technique. Whatever your unique scenario calls for, Meyer says that the Rage Bug is the bait you should have in mind.
“Obviously you can punch it, flip it, or Texas rig it,” Meyer listed. “Also, I like to cut off a little of the body and turn it into the perfect trailer for a jig or swim jig. There’s just not a lot of baits that offer all of those options with just one particular bait.”
With four different appendages, the Rage Bug displaces plenty of water.
“Those appendages give off a lot of movement and a lot of vibration that you want in the water,” Meyer said. “The Rage Craw technology allows four different appendages to be swimming independently at the same time, giving it even more action. If you need less water displacement, you can always rip some of them off as well.”
While it’s a soft plastic bait, Meyer says that that the Rage Bug is made with very durable plastic to help it stay on the hook longer while keeping its shape.
“This bait is super durable, but it’s soft enough that you’re going to get a good hookset out of it,” Meyer explained. “This bait won’t tear up after you catch just one bass. You’re going to put multiple in the boat before you need to change out you Rage Bug again.”
Forget about surface-level scents that wash away after one cast. The Rage Bug is molded in the factory with the strong coffee scent injected into the plastic. That makes a massive difference for Meyer when out on the water.
“This coffee scent is injected into the bait so it’s going to stay with the bait that much longer,” Meyer said. “Usually the first thing that goes on soft plastic baits it the scent because it’s just on the surface. While you’re going to use less of the Rage Bugs and keep them on longer because they’re so durable, their scent is going to last as well. That’s huge.”
