Perkins wins Red Man bass event on Pearl River

SLIDELL, La., – Hank Perkins of Collinsville, Miss., out fished the competition Saturday to earn $3,885 and 50 CITGO Challenge Points on the boater side of the Red Man Tournament Trail Mississippi Division opener on the Pearl River.

Perkins caught five largemouth bass weighing 13 pounds, 3 ounces during the one-day event to edge out Chuck Koski of Biloxi, Miss., who finished with a five-bass catch of 13-1 worth $1,943. Perkins caught his limit, including a 5-pound, 2-ounce largemouth that earned him $525 for the Abu Garcia Big Bass Award, flipping a Zoom lizard in dead end canals.

Jeffery Camp of Blytheville, Ark., and Ted Marodis of Biloxi, Miss., tied for third and collected $906 each for five bass weighing 12-10. James Hays of Meridian, Miss., placed fourth and earned $777 for five bass weighing 12-5.

First place in the Co-Angler Division and $1,943 went to Jackie Penny of Meridian, Miss., for five bass weighing 11-3. Second place in the Co-Angler Division and $971 went to Gary Jones of Moss Point, Miss., for five bass weighing 10-5, while Ken Murphy of Meridian, Miss., took third place and $486 with five bass weighing 9-10. Jones also won the co-angler Abu Garcia Big Bass Award of $262 for a 4-pound, 10-ounce largemouth he caught on a Strike King spinnerbait.

Keith Brumfield of Jackson, Miss., won the Berkley Power Bait award, a package of baits valued at $200, for the heaviest overall catch on Power Bait or Frenzy lures in either division. He caught a limit weighing 7-2.

Hulsey wins Red Man bass event on Lake of the Ozarks

LAURIE, Mo.,- Jay Hulsey of Bourbon, Mo., out fished the competition Saturday to earn $6,000 and 50 CITGO Challenge Points on the boater side of the Red Man Tournament Trail Ozark Division opener on Lake of the Ozarks.

Hulsey caught five largemouth bass weighing 23 pounds, 4 ounces during the one-day event to edge out Scott Stephenson of Topeka, Kan., who finished with a five-bass catch of 16-8 worth $3,000. Hulsey caught his limit, including a 7-pound, 9-ounce largemouth that earned him $1,000 for the Abu Garcia Big Bass Award, in deep water on the main lake around chunk rocks.

Bruce Gier of Eldon, Mo., took third place and collected $1,500 for five bass weighing 16-6. Calvin Douglas of Springfield, Mo., placed fourth and earned $1,300 for five bass weighing 15-13, while Jim Eakins of Nixa, Mo., placed fifth and earned $1,200 for five bass weighing 15-6.

First place in the Co-Angler Division and $3,000 went to Shawn Walker of Midway, Ark., for five bass weighing 17-13. Second place in the Co-Angler Division and $1,500 went to Scott St. Clair of Blue Springs, Mo., for five bass weighing 16-2, while Billy Boley of Dover, Ark., took third place and $750 with three bass weighing 15-15. Boley also won the co-angler Abu Garcia Big Bass Award of $500 for an 8-pound, 5-ounce largemouth.

Kammerer wins Red Man bass event on Lake Oroville

OROVILLE, Calif., – Lance Kammerer of Sacramento, Calif., out fished the competition Saturday to earn $2,903 and 50 CITGO Challenge Points on the boater side of the Red Man Tournament Trail Western Division opener on Lake Oroville.

Kammerer caught five spotted bass weighing 11 pounds, 15 ounces during the one-day event to edge out Bill McLaughlin of Redding, Calif., who finished with a five-bass catch of 11-9 worth $1,452. Kammerer was fishing points in the south end of the lake with a Carolina rigged worm.

Michael Tuck of Santa Rosa, Calif., placed third and collected $726 for four bass weighing 11-1. Tony Botelho of Hayward, Calif., who earned $629 for five bass weighing 10-9, and Dallas Merrick of Hayward, who received $581 for five bass weighing 9-12, followed in fourth and fifth place respectively.

First place in the Co-Angler Division and $1,452 went to Barry McCoy of Castro Valley, Calif., for five spotted bass weighing 10 pounds. Second place in the Co-Angler Division and $726 went to Kyle Clement of Anderson, Calif., for five bass weighing 9-10, while Bud Sipes of Oroville took third place and $363 with five bass weighing 8-12.

The tournament’s Abu Garcia Big Bass Award of $350 in the Boater Division went to Ralph White of Cottonwood, Calif. In the Co-Angler Division, Roy Hunt of Redding collected $175 from Abu Garcia for big bass.
