Hailed as the kings of Little Rock honky-tonk, The Salty Dogs are rolling out some of the most vintage country music around. After recently releasing their second album titled “The Salty Dogs and Friends,” this charismatic quartet is set for their newest escapade – a free concert at the 2005 Forrest L. Wood Championship.

The concert, which is free and open to the public, is slated to take place at 4 p.m. shortly before the day-three weigh-in at the Hot Springs Convention Center located at 134 Convention Blvd. in Hot Springs, Ark.

The group – comprised of Brad Williams, Bart Angel, Mike Nelson and Nick Devlin – began playing in January 2003 with a motive to enter the prestigious Arkansas Times Musician’s Showcase. The band’s blend of quality songs and performance led them to sweep the showcase and receive the top honor as the “Best Original Band in Arkansas.”

Shortly thereafter, The Salty Dogs completed a seven-song live EP titled “The King of Broken Hearts.” After a performance at Little Rock’s Riverfest music festival, The Salty Dogs also played shows with the guit-steel playing Junior Brown, Moot Davis, Pete Anderson, The Gourds, Old Crow Medicine Show, David Rawlings and The Legendary Shack Shakers.

Their new album, “The Salty Dogs and Friends,” is a 10-song LP that features some special guests from the Little Rock music community.
