Top 10 Baits from Lake Barkley
Lots of ledge stuff worked
Though the pros took off from Lake Barkley for the second stop of the Costa FLW Series Central Division, most of them ended up running over into Kentucky Lake for their fish. Kentucky Lake in June means ledge fishing, and as such the pros employed a pretty standard array of offshore producers.
1. Local angler Jake Lawrence won his first FLW event Saturday with an impressive three-day catch of 72-4. Most of his fish came from one spot and most came on one bait: a V&M J-Mag Worm in red bug. Lawrence also added some fish on a custom hair jig, a Castaic Jerky J, a football jig and a spoon.
2. Michigan’s Garrett Paquette arrived for the Costa FLW Series event on Lake Barkley and had one of the poorest practice sessions of his life. He rallied to finish second, mostly on the strength of a ¾-ounce Queen Tackle Hammerhead Rattlin Football Jig and a 6th Sense Cloud 9 C20 Deep Diver.
3. Mike Roller stuck with a drop-shot with a 6-inch Roboworm Straight Tail Worm (morning dawn) or a Zoom Z3 Swamp Crawler in pro blue neon.
4. Marcus Sykora also leaned on a drop-shot and says he used a Zoom Swamp Crawler for it. Sykora also rotated in a few other ledge baits and says that a 5-inch Zoom Swimmer was chief among them.
5. Local pro Ramie Colson Jr., focused on Lake Barkley and unlike almost everyone else, he abandoned the ledge bite and focused on brush in creeks with a Zoom Ol’ Monster in plum apple anchored by a ½-ounce weight.
6. Tournament veteran Andy Morgan “bounced around” Lake Barkley picking up bass with a plum-colored Zoom Ol’ Monster and a War Eagle Flipping Jig with a Zoom Z Craw trailer.
7. Local stick Brandon Hunter says he relied on a 7-inch Jenko Tremor Shad on a Scrounger head and a big Lucky Craft RTO 3.5XD crankbait in aurora citrus caught his kickers on day one.
8. Cody Harrison primarily relied on a Zoom Magnum Trick Worm in raspberry shad and a True Bass Hollow Body Perfect Head to haul in 52-11 and land in eighth place.
9. Adam Craig enjoyed a top 10 finish in only his second FLW event largely on the strength of ¾-ounce Omega Football Jig. He also used a 6-inch Basstrix Paddle Tail Swimbait.
10. Stacy King kept things simple. The veteran angler caught all of his fish on a big shaky head with a 6-inch Bass Pro Shops Stik-O Worm in blue craw.
