KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Phoenix Bass Fishing League Presented by T-H Marine Gator Division will continue the season at Lake Toho on March 8. Barring some wild weather, it should be a slugfest, as the spawn is likely to be in full swing.
This year, in addition to enhanced regional events, the Fishing 4 FREE! promotion means that every Phoenix Bass Fishing League angler fishing the fourth event in each division will receive an Abu Garcia gift pack valued at $230 for boaters and $180 for co-anglers – a value that exceeds the entry fee.
What to expect

One key to this event might be keeping tabs on the Tackle Warehouse Invitationals event on the same fishery. A consistent performer on the Kissimmee Chain, Garrett Rocamora thinks that you won’t need to extrapolate too much between the events.
“It will probably be the same kind of thing,” said Rocamora. “Fish spawning, some fish done spawning. It all depends on the weather. We probably won’t have any kind of crazy fronts then, but I have seen it. So, there should be some really good weights in that. Kissimmee will probably be the place to be in that; everyone and their mom will probably run to Kissimmee I’m sure.”
Down in Kissimmee, the standard spawn-time game plan is to fish a worm slowly in pads or other isolated vegetation. Still, a ChatterBait or some other moving bait could be good as well. And, up in Toho, where there is a lot of grass, there are even more options. Plus, the Kissimmee River between the lakes can be an interesting player if the water is flowing.
Regardless of the techniques in play, you can expect some serious weight in this one.
“Usually in March around here, it takes 30 or more locally,” said Rocamora. “The Toho Marine Elite Team Trail is this Sunday out of Camp Mack, so I’m sure that will take some weight. And the Invitationals will give us something to look at for weight as well.”
