From time to time, FLW checks in with its anglers to find out what they’ve been up to, what they’re listening to, who they’re following and where they’re heading while out on the tournament trail. This week, we caught up with David Williams.

What are you up to lately?

I’ve been trying to get caught up around the house and spend time with the family; just getting my to-do list done. We went to the beach for a few days, and when we get back from Champlain we’re going out to Yellowstone for five or six days. When you travel a good bit you enjoy spending time with the family when you’re home. And, I’ve fished a couple BFLs since the last event we had – one on Wylie and one on High Rock.

Where are you headed next?

I’m just going to Champlain for the last Tour event. I’ll head up probably on Friday and drive most of the way, then get up there Saturday and get rigged up and settled in. It’d be nice to go to the St. Lawrence River for a few days, too. If I had the family up with me I probably would.

Other than that, I’m just fishing some BFLs, just trying to fill in the gaps between the seasons. I think I’m getting close to my 200th event with FLW (he’s at 198). I looked it up the other day. That makes me feel old, I guess, but actually it’s more than that, because they’ve only got records since ’96.

What are you listening to or watching these days?

When I travel I like to listen to old country music. A lot of Hank Jr., Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard; a lot of old stuff. I’m pretty much old school on the music. I don’t watch a ton of TV, but if I’m watching I like to watch sporting events or Live PD. College football will be coming up pretty soon, and we usually go to a couple Clemson games every year.

Who are you following on social media right now?

I just try to keep up. I get a lot of questions, so I just try to get caught up on that. It seems like the high school and college kids ask a lot of questions, but some of them don’t really like my answers all the time.

What bait or technique are you trying to master right now?

I’m just trying to get better at what I do. With all the live fishing now, I like to watch a lot of that stuff. What drives me crazy is when you see a guy in the top five or top 10 and they’re fishing exactly how you were, and maybe it’s just something simple. It’s really opened my eyes up to how close you can be to a winning area and be just a touch off and finish mid-pack.
