Ferguson Takes Co-angler Crown
Day-two giant puts Woodville, Texas, angler over the top
Louis Ferguson of Woodville, Texas, won the co-angler division of the Costa FLW Series event presented by YETI on Sam Rayburn with a giant bass and a lucky Rat-L-Trap.
Ferguson, who fished with Brian Robison of Magnolia, Texas, on day one and Tracy Mitchell of Springfield, Mo., on day two, used a favorite Bill Lewis Rat-L-Trap in retro red color to catch his monster bass on the second and ultimately final day of the fog-shortened event. The 10-pound, 5-ounce fish gave him a combined two-day bag of 35 pounds, 14 ounces.
“That particular Rat-L-Trap has caught several big bass for me,” says Ferguson, who also caught several fish on a white swim jig. “On day one we fished a windy point, and we both limited out early. I caught a 5-pounder on the swim jig, then caught the rest on that retro red Rat-L-Trap. We both had our weight by 11 a.m., so we went and fished some new water after that.”
On day two, Ferguson and Mitchell fished a totally different part of the lake.
“We were initially fishing hay grass, but then we went back up in a little-bitty drain loaded up with hydrilla where he caught a 2-pounder and I caught that 10-pounder, then a 4-pounder. I caught them all on the Rat-L-Trap.”
Ferguson won a prize package worth $28,950.
“I had a great time,” he says, “And I’m retiring that Rat-L-Trap.”
