Fort Gibson is testing the pros and co-anglers alike on day one of the Costa FLW Series Southwestern event presented by Mercury. Morning reports indicate very, very few fish being caught. Lots of pros were sitting on zero or with just one fish by the noon hour. The biggest catch discovered belonged to local angler Ryan Wilbanks who had boated four keepers with at least one of them being sizable.

Many anglers were hoping the early morning showers that rolled over Fort Gibson today would help trigger the bite, but such was not the case. Far up the river, the current was a trickle. About a dozen boats that started in the river this morning had little to show for their efforts.

Early reports indicate those that were getting a bite or two were working Fort Gibson’s main-lake flat points, though we saw at least a dozen or more techniques in play. The lake was calm most of the morning, but by noon a little breeze could be seen ruffling the surface. Indeed, this event looks to be every bit as challenging as promised.

Though the original schedule listed the weigh-in at 3:30 p.m. CT, tournament director Ron Lappin moved up the start time to 3 p.m. Lappin sent the angelrs out early this morning to counter the differecne. You can watch the weigh-in on FLW Live.
