The 2019 FLW Spain Championship took place June 1-2 in the waters of the Garcia Sola reservoir. The event, which was the qualifying route to the Costa FLW Series Championship, was hosted by the municipality of Herrera del Duque.
In attendance were top performers from Spain, representatives of Portugal and American angler Fabian Rodriguez, who traveled from the U.S. to participate. Teams from many provinces of the national territory came together to compete in the ultimate test for Spanish bass fishermen who want to measure their abilities on an international scale.
The weekend was marked by high temperatures that perhaps mitigated fishing expectations. Few managed to catch a limit every day. The techniques were very diverse – predominantly Finnish techniques – fished among the lake’s vegetation.
The team of Mario Sánchez and Juan Luis Sánchez topped the field with a total weight of 19 pounds, 9 ounces. Runners-up Jorge Triviño and Juan Ramón Ruiz weighed in 17-9. Third-placed anglers Alberto Roncero and Juan Pulido weighed in 17-7.
The Champions had this to say: “We are very happy. It is a great opportunity that FLW Spain gives us to enjoy an experience of this magnitude. Without a doubt we will have an unforgettable experience [in the U.S.].”
FLW Spain would like to thank the staff for all its work, the sponsors and the Town Hall of Herrera del Duque for their support and contribution to the bass fishermen and the organization.
