What is it that makes a town a “fishing town?” Is it the people who live in that town and fish in its nearby waters? Is it the local tackle shop, with its unmistakable sense of community? Is it the fishing culture, which visitors can sense almost immediately when they arrive in a small town known for its bass, crappie, catfish, trout, etc.? According to Bill Dance, it’s all of the above. Also according to Tennessee’s most well-known fisherman – and, some would say, most well-known citizen – the entire Volunteer State could be identified as “one big fishing town.”
In the first of a three-part introduction to Major League Fishing’s “Fishing Towns,” America’s most popular fisherman talks about Tennessee’s border-to-border wealth of opportunities and how the Bill Dance Signature Lakes project aims to enhance every visitor’s experience in his beloved state’s statewide “fishing town” culture. As Dance says: “Welcome to my fishing town.”
