The final day of the Toyota Series presented by A.R.E. Southwestern Division event on Sam Rayburn has been quite different than the previous two days. Mild temperatures overnight, heavy clouds and light rain set the stage for the Top 10 anglers. But, different conditions haven’t necessarily led to better fishing.

Tournament leader Derek Mundy went back offshore to start the morning in hopes of making some more magic happen, but after nearly two hours with no bites he went shallow and immediately connected with two keepers. By noon, he had put a small limit in the boat worth maybe 8 pounds and plans to spend the rest of his day offshore.

Jason Bonds also started shallow and for the hour we spent with him it was slow going. He left us mid-morning and we haven’t been able to relocate him, so we really don’t know how his day has gone after the start.

Jason Conn has spent the entire week in the Deer Stand and when we caught up with him a little before noon he was sitting on a 12-pound limit. He actually reports some of the most consistent fishing on the day, but the bigger bites have eluded him thus far.

Aaron Johnson was throwing a lipless crankbait around grass in The Canyons and was catching fish, but his limit only goes around 10 pounds. He’s lost one big fish so far and was catching fish steadily when we left him to head for the ramp.

For the rest of the Top 10, fish are being caught, but nobody has a limit much over 12 pounds.

Water temperatures have been warming up slightly throughout the day and a late-day flurry could be the deciding factor in this tournament, which is presented by Berkley.

Weigh-in starts at 3 p.m. CT, so tune in to see if Mundy can survive, or if someone else can steal the show.
