One Ounce Puts Jones Jr. in the Stage Six Knockout Round

August 8, 2021 • Bass Pro Tour

It came down to the final minutes of Group B’s Qualifying Day 2 at the Toyota Stage Six Presented by Googan Baits. Casey Ashely was sitting in 20th with a two-day total of 49 pounds. Alton Jones Jr. needed just one more scorable bass to move above the Toro Cut Line, and with about six minutes left in the round, he caught one. A 2-pound, 11-ounce bass moved Jones above the Cut Line with a two-day total of 49-1, just an ounce ahead of Ashley.

Now Jones will move on to the Stage Six Knockout Round. Lucky for him, all of the anglers’ weights will be zeroed at the start of the day. The MLF pros will compete for a spot in the Top 8 in order to qualify for the Championship Round. Matt Lee and Justin Lucas have already qualified for the Championship Round by winning Group A and Group B Qualifying Rounds.
