Jake Lawrence has opened up a big lead over the rest of the top 10 through two days of the Costa FLW Series on Lake Barkley presented by T-H Marine. With a total of 52 pounds, 9 ounces, he’s potentially on a record-setting pace, but that doesn’t mean the rest of the field isn’t catching them. Though 20-pound bags aren’t a dime a dozen as in years past, the top 10 is stacked with talent from all over the place.

2. Garrett Paquette – Canton, Mich. – 43-15 (10)

Garrett Paquette is in second place on the strength of his day two catch of 24 pounds.

Paquette says he worked ledges on Kentucky Lake about 10 miles south of the dam.

“I only had six bites today,” says Paquette.

3. Brandon Hunter – Benton, Ky. – 43-8 (10)

Brandon Hunter also bolted to Kentucky Lake to ledge fish.

“I had an early draw, so I got to fish a place I didn’t get to fish Thursday,” he says. “If I hadn’t caught fish early I wouldn’t have caught them.”

Hunter says he got bit on hard and soft baits, but the key was his early arrival.

4. Cody Harrison – Tuscumbia, Ala. – 41-13 (10)

Cody Harrison also probed the Kentucky Lake ledge structure and caught a big bag of 23-4 to move up into the top 10.

“I was mostly near the 68/80 bridge,” he says. “But I moved around.”

Harrison says he mostly caught his fish on soft plastics.

5. Andy Morgan – Dayton, Tenn. – 39-11 (10)

Andy Morgan stayed on Lake Barkley, where he took an offshore, deliberate approach, carefully plying the Cumberland River impoundment with plastics. Morgan says fishing slow was essential to his success.
