Built for one thing and one thing only, to entice heart-stopping topwater strikes. The Berkley PowerBait Buzz’n Speed Toad is built with serrated feet that buzz and cut the water’s surface, creating a strike provoking topwater disturbance and sound. It is also made from sturdy material for better durability so anglers can fish way back into heavy cover and catch multiple fish per bait.

On the top side, the Buzz’n Speed Toad is fitted with unique perpendicular hook point keepers, which give anglers the option to utilize their favorite single hook or double frog hook while maintaining a perfectly weedless presentation. On the bottom, a belly slot has an extended leading edge that keeps the bait from sliding up the shank for even more reliable hook-ups as well. Infused with a heavy dose of exclusive PowerBait scent formula that makes fish hold on up to 18-times longer, giving you more time to set the hook, the Buzz’n Speed Toad is the perfect toad for triggering aggressive topwater strikes.

How to Rig

The versatility offered with the Buzz’n Speed Toad provides anglers with lots of options to consider. Gary Klein offered some great insight here when he joined us on the May episode of Unpacking with the Pros. During his segment, he mentions using this bait primarily rigged Tex-sposed (pushing the hook all the way through the soft plastic and then making sure the hook point is flat against the top of the plastic toad) with a weight, as a replacement for the skirt on the back of a buzzbait, as well as a swim jig trailer when fishing around aquatic vegetation. He’ll also use this with a flipping technique around heavy cover with 25-pound braid. On the question of color choice, Gary opts for a general rule of thumb that includes using “dark colors on darker days and light or translucent colors on lighter days”.
