Well it’s Saturday, March 2nd, and today I had an event at the Azalea Festival in Palatka, Fla. It was fun being with the folks from the True Lube Tire and Auto – Leota, Eugene and Elliott. They are such nice people and we really had a great time.

I think the event was preparing me a little bit for the torture we are all about to endure. The weather in Palatka was 55 degrees with a 30 mph NW wind and I about froze to death!

Now, I’m starting my drive to Jasper, Ala., where the temperatures will range from 23 to 39 with snow flurries and strong winds. Maybe it wasn’t so cold in Palatka after all.

The tournament on Smith Lake will no doubt be tough fishing. The tournament will probably be won with a few decent largemouths mixed in with a few smaller spotted bass. The key here is to not have a bad day and at least catch five spots each day. The lake is deep and clear so finesse fishing will probably prevail. While I’m driving I’m trying to get mentally prepared for the weather `cause this Florida boy will NEVER be physically prepared for that kind of cold! Wish me luck…
