High winds have hampered some teams

Day two of the YETI FLW College Fishing National Championship presented by Lowrance on the Potomac River has been quite different from day one. With strong souths winds kicking up the main channel and keeping the tide back, teams have had to adjust.

Because of the wind, and what seems to be moderately slower fishing, the FLW Live Leaderboard is a bit more sparsely populated today. It’s also looking pretty likely that some of the top teams will drop precipitously, either from simple bad days or an inability to effectively fish what they need to due to the wind.

However, there are still going to be plenty of good bags brought to the scale. As of about 1 p.m., all of the top five teams from yesterday had a limit except for the University of Tennessee and SUNY-ESF. Right now, with a lot of time left, it looks like either the Murray State duo of Adam Puckett and Blake Albertson or the Bethel team of Tristan McCormick and Dakota Pierce has the lead and is working on a better-than-15-pound average. The day-one leaders from West Virginia University only just filled out a limit, and it’d be no surprise to see them go on to have a good afternoon.

For techniques, the same stuff that has been working is still working. We’ve seen plenty of fish caught in grass on vibrating jigs and plenty caught on hard cover or current with a bunch of other stuff.

Low tide is not likely to get very low today due to the wind, so the conditions may not shift as much as is usual on the Potomac. So, if a team is going to strike gold late to make the cut it'll probably have to just figure something out. One concern for everyone is going to be getting back on time. If the anglers are smart, they’ll leave plenty of time to ride the waves back to weigh-in.

Weigh-in starts at 3 p.m. ET and is live online. If you want to see some Potomac bass and find out which 10 teams will be fishing for a title tomorrow, you may want to give it a look.
