One of the most venerated largemouth bass fisheries in the country, Lake Chickamauga has hosted multiple memorable tournaments in Major League Fishing history. This impoundment of the Tennessee River is 85 years old, which means that the original habitat has rotted away or disappeared over time. That’s why MLF Fisheries Management Division (FMD) focuses like the Minn Kota Habitat Restoration Project performed on Chickamauga in late May are so important to the upkeep of the fishery.

Shortly after Bass Pro Tour Stage 4 on Chickamauga and Lake Nickajack, Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) staff joined volunteers from Kubota Tractor Corporation of Chattanooga at the Wolftever Creek Boat Ramp to build and deploy Mossback Fish Habitat donated by MLF FMD.

The habitat was selected and placed to concentrate multiple sizes of forage and panfish, and featured MossBack 40-inch Conservation Cubes and ReedMats, which were deployed with the assistance of a Kubota SVL75-3 Track Loader.

Habitat drop locations are available for anglers on the TWRA website.

This Chickamauga program followed the blueprint of the other three MinnKota habitat projects for 2025, helping to rejuvenate habitat on popular panfish and bass fisheries.
