GAINESVILLE, Ga. – Larry Yon of Acworth, Ga., out-fished 133 competitors Saturday to earn $4,546 and 50 CITGO Challenge Points on the boater side of the Red Man Tournament Trail’s Bulldog Division event on Lake Lanier.
Yon caught two bass weighing 8 pounds, 10 ounces during the one-day event to edge out Pat Fisher of Stone Mountain, Ga., who finished with a three-bass catch of 8-8 worth $2,273. Yon caught his limit, including an 8-pounder that earned him an additional $665 as the Abu Garcia Big Bass, using a topwater bait near Chesapeake.
Mark Fletcher of Palmetto, Ga., took third place and collected $1,136 with four bass weighing 8-7. Greg Pugh of Cullman, Ala., placed fourth and earned $985 with three bass weighing 7-11, while Todd Tucker of Moultrie, Ga., placed fifth and earned $833 with one bass weighing 6-13.
First place in the Co-Angler Division and $1,704 went to Nicky Jenkins, 31, of Dahlonega, Ga., and Cory Davidson, 22, of Marietta, Ga., who each weighed in 6 pounds, 6 ounces of bass. Jenkins had five bass while Davidson caught four bass.
Second place in the Co-Angler Division and $530 went to Steve Pinkston of Sugar Hill, Ga., with four bass weighing 5-13 and Bob Martin of Lawrenceville, Ga., with four bass of the same weight.
Jim Garrett of Loganville, Ga., won the co-angler Abu Garcia Big Bass Award of $332 with a 5-pound, 8-ounce largemouth he caught while fishing topwater baits.
On July 22, the Red Man Tournament Trail will visit West Point Lake for the fourth of five events in the Bulldog Division. The boater with the most CITGO Challenge points after the division’s season finale, a two-day Super Tournament Sept. 9-10 on Lake Sinclair, will be declared the Divisional Points Champion and awarded $1,000. The co-angler amassing the most points by the end of the season will receive $500.
