Lake Breakdown: Cayuga Lake Walkthrough with James Elam

August 9, 2022 • Bass Pro Tour

UNION SPRINGS, N.Y. –  James Elam has a reputation for succeeding when fish get off the bank, and that means this Tulsa, Oklahoma, angler is in his element at Cayuga Lake for the Fox Rent A Car Stage Six Presented by Googan Baits.

In addition to being much further north than other Bass Pro Tour events this year, Elam says that Cayuga Lake is unique because it’s 450 feet deep at the middle and lined with grass and plenty of manmade features that bass enjoy, such as docks. The water clarity is different this year, but Elam says all the same rules still apply with bass wanting to be on the best grass they can find.

That knowledge paid off as Elam enjoyed a solid first day on Cayuga Lake, with 17 bass weighing 55 pounds, 14 ounces to place ninth on Sunday. Now he’s sharing what he knows about Cayuga Lake and what he thinks it will take to succeed at Stage Six.

Fans can catch all of the Cayuga Lake action on the MLF NOW! live stream on MajorLeagueFishing.com, on the free MLF app or on MyOutdoorTV.com.
