Boater Dicky Newberry of Houston caught a five-bass limit weighing 16 pounds, 7 ounces Saturday to win $3,679 plus a $2,000 Ranger bonus in the BFL Cowboy Division tournament on the Red River. He was flipping tubes and lizards behind docks to catch his limit.

4th: John Bowen, League City, Texas, five bass, 14-15, $859

6th: Mark Hay, Athens, La., five bass, 14-6, $675

7th: Mark Tullis, Conroe, Texas, five bass, 13-4, $613

8th: Doug Cheney, Shreveport, La., five bass, 12-13, $521

Warren Whitaker of Woodsville, Miss., won the May 15 BFL Cowboy Division tournament in the Co-angler Division to earn $1,835.Warren Whitaker of Woodville, Miss., caught a five-bass limit weighing 12 pounds, 10 ounces Saturday to win $1,835 in the Co-angler Division on the Red River. Under overcast skies, he was using plastic worms near the lock in brush-covered areas.

Coming up

The next and final BFL Cowboy Division tournament of the season is scheduled for Aug. 28-29, a Super Tournament at Toledo Bend in Many, La. After the final Cowboy Division tournament is complete, the top 40 boaters and 40 co-anglers based on point standings will qualify for the Oct. 14-16 Regional Championship at Lake Texoma in Denison, Texas, where boaters will compete for a top award of a Ranger 198VX with a 200-horsepower Evinrude or Yamaha outboard and a Chevy pick-up, while co-anglers will fish for a new Ranger 198VX.
