Boater Dicky Newberry of Houston caught a five-bass limit weighing 16 pounds, 7 ounces Saturday to win $3,679 plus a $2,000 Ranger bonus in the BFL Cowboy Division tournament on the Red River. He was flipping tubes and lizards behind docks to catch his limit.

Warren Whitaker of Woodville, Miss., caught a five-bass limit weighing 12 pounds, 10 ounces Saturday to win $1,835 in the Co-angler Division on the Red River. Under overcast skies, he was using plastic worms near the lock in brush-covered areas.

Coming up
The next and final BFL Cowboy Division tournament of the season is scheduled for Aug. 28-29, a Super Tournament at Toledo Bend in Many, La. After the final Cowboy Division tournament is complete, the top 40 boaters and 40 co-anglers based on point standings will qualify for the Oct. 14-16 Regional Championship at Lake Texoma in Denison, Texas, where boaters will compete for a top award of a Ranger 198VX with a 200-horsepower Evinrude or Yamaha outboard and a Chevy pick-up, while co-anglers will fish for a new Ranger 198VX.
