Thursday, FLW Tournament – Lake St. Clair, Day Two

Dan writes:

For some unexplainable reason, things were different today. Everyone struggled. I thought that in the area where we finished yesterday, we should both be able to catch a limit today. When we hadn’t had our first keeper bite after two hours though, nor had we seen any of the boats around us catch a fish, it was time for a change. My partner had fish to go to, and in fact they went to his fish yesterday and caught `em, so I said “Let’s go.” We did, but they didn’t bite there today either. I ended up scrambling around, fishing specific spots instead of large areas, returning to my original area to see if they’d turned on there (they hadn’t), and catching only three fish throughout the day. I didn’t miss any today, and weighed those three in for seven pounds, thirteen ounces, giving me a two day total of eighteen, fourteen. That was just a little over one pound shy of making a check – just as I had feared last night, breaking off that one fish late yesterday ended up turning into a $2,500 mistake.

Up at 5am again so I could have the truck for the day. I did some computer work and organized the house, then met some of the wives for brunch. It will be a while before I see them again so I wanted to get out with them at this tournament. Laraine & Elaine gave me a beautiful basket filled with items for our new house, it was very thoughtful of them and we can use everything.

Dan was due in at 4pm. He arrived with three fish, which was not enough weight to get us a check. It is a bummer, but I am trying not to dwell on it. We had a better year this year than last. Let’s just try to remember that.

Dan is driving a camera boat tomorrow, so after the weigh-in he had a meeting and then we packed up and moved over to Wal-Mart. This works out great because he can just get up tomorrow morning and meet everyone there. It was around 7:30 when we got parked and I cooked dinner. Dan was exhausted. He sat on the coach after eating and began nodding off, so we went to bed around 9:30.
