In the camera boat today I followed Steve Daniels, who ran all the way down to the lower end of the Detroit River to catch his fish. It was worth the ride. He had some spinnerbait fish up on the shallow flats there in practice, which wouldn’t bite today, but that didn’t matter. There were two other spots he had found where both Steve and his partner were catching just one fish after another today, practically without moving the boat. On one little current break there were baitfish stuck in the middle with birds circling and diving from above, and white bass, largemouth and smallmouth schooling up from below non-stop the entire day. The guys would throw a white tube bait in there and catch some kind of fish on practically every cast. In fact, they were catching so many white bass that they learned in order to catch the smallmouth they had to ignore the first one, two or three bites on each cast, waiting instead for each of those fish to drop the bait and for it to sink down deeper to where the smallmouth were waiting. It worked, and though neither fisherman got a big bite today both guys ended up with a twelve pound sack, and Steve’s co-angler partner won the $40,000 first prize. Steve made the Top Five cut and will be fishing the same pattern, same spots tomorrow, and I’ll be there with him.

It was nice being at Wal-Mart today. I ran a few errands around town, took our boat to the Yamaha service trailer for some minor work and then went to the Fun Zone and mingled a bit before Dan came in. I am trying to find us a new sponsorship and spoke with a couple of the sponsors there. We will send in resume’s and hope for the best. One of the sponsor teams I spoke with even asked for me to send in my resume. This is the time to get them in, seeing that it is the end of the year and they will be doing budgeting for next year this summer.
Tonight I was edgy. Okay, maybe it is PMS. I was quite irritable. We got home finally around 7:30 and Dan realized he wanted to get something else on the boat worked on. He had to go back to the service truck and by the time we ate it was 8:15. Dan has to be at the tent in the morning at 4:45am, so I know he is exhausted and has to get some sleep. But I miss him and miss spending quality time together. Tomorrow we drive home and that puts us in separate vehicles all the way home. That is not going to be fun at all, and I’m sure our stress levels will increase during that ride.
