Lake Erie EverStart Practice, Detroit, Michigan

Dan writes:

An overnight thunderstorm signaled the arrival of a cold front, and by morning temperatures had dropped below 50 degrees, and winds were from the north at 20-25 mph with gusts to 35 and Gale warnings. At 10am, nine out of the ten boats staying here at the campground were still here, and mine was one of them. At 11 o’clock I finally ventured out, and I spent seven hours fishing the south end of the river, where it was fairly protected. I caught one fish all day. Fishing a section of windy riprap with a chartreuse-bladed TERMINATOR spinnerbait, a four-pound smallmouth slammed it, and for a brief time here, things were the way they were supposed to be.

Annie writes:

The weather is certainly changing; it is much colder than yesterday, and raining on and off. I was glad that Dan spent the morning home and did not go out on the lake today. This is one of the only lakes that makes me nervous, I know how rough it can get with just a little wind. Dan has been calling me during the days when he goes out, and as soon as he gets off the water, too.

Dan was home by 7:00, and I had coffee ready for him, but no dinner. The wind was so fierce that we could not cook out on the grill. Dan had planned to go out to eat, thank goodness. We went in a nice warm, dry restaurant and spent almost two hours there, we just chatted and had a good time. We got home around 9:00, and I knew Dan was leaving very early in the morning, so I bundled up, went in the screen house and made him some peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to take with him. It was very difficult because the peanut butter was so cold it would not even spread. It was just kind-of in lumps on the bread.
