TTT champions to be crowned today

HEMPHILL, Texas – Competitors traveled back to the west side of Toledo Bend Reservoir Sunday morning to put in for the second and final day of tournament action at the 2001 Wal-Mart Texas Tournament Trail Championship. At 7 a.m. 102 pros and co-anglers set out from Pendleton Marina in search of competitive bass fishing’s biggest payout in Texas – the championship has a total purse of $195,000.

It’s all or nothing in today’s round of the two-day, combined-weight tournament. Jerrel Pringle of China Spring, Texas, has what looks like a relatively comfortable lead in the Pro Division. He caught 19 pounds, 7 ounces of bass on day one and leads second-place Randy Qualls of Winkler, Texas, by over 2 1/2 pounds.

“I can win it if I catch 16 or 17 pounds (Sunday),” Pringle said.

Mark Tullis of Conroe, Texas leads the rest of the Co-angler Division by over a pound with a day-one weight of 16 pounds, 1 ounce.

The sun rises over east Texas as TTT anglers work stumps emerging from the low water of Toledo Bend.Conditions are almost exactly the same as Saturday. The weather’s warm, the lake’s water level is still at an all-time low, and there is still a lot of weekend fishing traffic.

With contingency considerations, the Pro Division winner could take home a possible $70,000 and the Co-angler Division winner could pocket a possible $40,000.

Weigh-in Sunday will start at 3:30 p.m. at the Wal-Mart located in nearby Many, La.
