Friday, January 4, On the Road Again

Dan writes:

I woke up at a highway rest area somewhere near New Orleans. Annie had done a good job getting us this far last night. We still have 800 miles to go, and even though we are as far south as we can get it is still so cold that the roadside puddles are frozen and there is even ice in the brackish swamps and bayous of south Louisiana and Mississippi.

Annie writes:

On day one we were very excited. A new adventure! Traveling together again, we couldn’t stop chatting. We were ready to be on the road and roughing it. Day two was pretty good, still a lot of conversation. Sleeping in the truck isn’t that bad. Life could be worse. Day three came and the excitement was fading. Our bodies were stiff, we were sleeping in one hour increments, the conversation was dwindling. Then came day four. How could we ever have been excited about traveling for four days like this?! The truck is far too small, too full, too cramped to get comfortable. Conversation now comes only when necessary. We are sore, tired and grumpy. We need to get there soon!
