The key to winning is your approach to the game
1. Do some research. The place to start is the Angler Profiles section on this Web site. If you see an angler you want on your team, check out his stats. See how he’s done overall on tour and, more importantly, how he’s done previously at the individual lake. More often than not, certain anglers will have a certain knack for fishing one kind of tournament lake.
2. Start with the obvious. If you have no idea where to start when choosing anglers, check out results and news from previous FLW Outdoors tournaments at that lake. The names in the final round and in the headlines from the lake’s past tourneys are a good bet. The tournament results on this Web site go back to when the FLW started in 1996.
3. Know the conditions. No two FLW tournaments are alike, even when they’re at the same lake year after year. Read the tournament previews to find out what conditions anglers are facing come tournament time this year. Use what you know about how certain pros like to fish and apply that to your picks.
4. Apply the random theory. Never have the top six ranked pros placed one through six in an FLW tourney. Also, never have the top six finishers repeated as the top six from one year to the next at the same lake. This goes back to the idea that no two FLW events are alike. There are ALWAYS lesser knowns, underdogs and outright rookies who find themselves in the final round of any given FLW tournament. So, while it’s a safe bet to put big names on your team, don’t be afraid to include an educated wildcard or two on your team. It could be the difference between simply getting a good score and winning a million bucks.
5. Have fun. It’s a game. It’s free. It’s fishing.
