April 10, Beaver Lake, AR

Dan writes:

Here we are at Beaver Lake, once again. Wahoo! I’ve been looking forward to this tournament for a whole year – clear water, bed fishing, largemouth, smallmouth, and spotted bass. At least that’s what I’ve been dreaming of for the past twelve months. When we arrived yesterday though we found conditions a lot different from what we had expected. The lake was already six to eight feet higher than normal, and three inches of rain on Sunday caused it to rise another five feet in one day! That makes it about thirteen feet higher than last year, and because they’re trying to drain it off as quickly as possible, the flow is pulling a lot of mud from upriver.

I’m still excited to be here though, and can’t wait to get out fishing. First things first though, and I spent most of the morning setting up the new boat, which included installing my Lowrance X15’s. In the afternoon, finally, we did get out on the lake, and while I did fish a little, most of the day was spent breaking in the new Yamaha engine.
