Graphic artist draws top BFL finishes
John Breeden, 32, of Brandon, Miss., is a graphic artist by trade. But he’s a bass angler at heart, one who found his way into the Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League ranks on the invitation of a friend, Mark Clark.
Clark, who competes as a boater in the Mississippi Division, asked Breeden last year to accompany him to 2001 BFL tournaments as a co-angler in order to guarantee himself a slot on the boater side. Breeden accepted the invitation and proceeded to school his friend and a host of other competitors on the fine art of catching bass from the back of a bass boat.
In six tournaments, Breeden registered a trio of top-five finishes worth a cool $4,487.
Included were a win at the Mississippi Super Tournament on Lake Ferguson, a third on the Columbus Pool and a third at the Red River Regional, which earned him the points standings crown and a berth in the upcoming Wal-Mart BFL All-American on Cross Lake in Shreveport, La.
Breeden also finished 13th at the Mississippi Division’s Tunica event, 18th at Pickwick Lake and 28th at Ross Barnett.
“It was a pretty good year,” said Breeden, who next season is considering stepping up his fishing to the EverStart Series. “Mark gives me a pretty hard time because he’s the one who got me involved in BFL in the first place. He tells me: `All I did is ask you to go as my co-angler. Now, look what you’ve done.'”
