Voters to predict winner of Jacobs Cup one matchup at a time

The question that is currently weighing heavily upon the minds of many fishing fans is, “Which Wal-Mart FLW Tour angler will win the prestigious 2003 Jacobs Cup?” This year FLWOutdoors.com is inviting prognosticators to weigh in on the issue by voting in its virtual championship.

The Wal-Mart FLW Tour’s 48 finest pro anglers have already embarked upon the road to Richmond, Va., by qualifying for the season-ending Jacobs Cup, scheduled to take place Sept. 10-13 at the Old Dominion State’s James River. FLW Outdoors invites you to travel along with the world’s greatest bass anglers by participating in daily Internet polls paralleling the matchups of the championship tournament bracket.

The countdown to the FLW Tour Championship is under way with just more than eight weeks left to go before the world-class competition begins. The virtual championship will begin July 14, and polls will be posted each Monday through Thursday in daily stories on FLWOutdoors.com’s e-zine and also on the FLW Tour page. These daily postings on the Web site will give details about the virtual championship as well as information about the two anglers facing each other in that day’s poll. A virtual championship bracket will provide poll results.

Visitors to the site will have 24 hours to vote for one of two anglers paired together head-to-head as they appear in the official championship tournament bracket. Half of the 48 pro bass anglers qualified for the Jacobs Cup will advance beyond the opening round to the semifinal round. During the final two weeks before the FLW Tour Championship, polls will appear Monday through Friday.

Fishing fans will again decide who survives the semifinal round by casting votes for one of two anglers pitted against each other in the second round of bracket matchups. After the 12 finalists have been determined based on poll results, voters will be able to pick whomever they think will win the championship. The final poll will appear Sept. 9 and will remain open during the 24 hours leading up to the first day of tournament action.

Each daily poll will open at 9 a.m. and be replaced by a subsequent poll the following day at the same time. Polls will not be open to voters over weekends or on other nonpolling days.

Keep checking poll results through the FLW Tour Championship to see if voters can outguess pundits.
