Beneficiaries of Children’s Miracle Network pay visit to FLW Outdoor Show
RICHMOND, Va. – Enthusiasm was contagious Friday when 13 residents of the Children’s Hospital in Richmond toured the outdoor show surrounding the Wal-Mart FLW Tour World Championship of Bass Fishing presented by Castrol. The doors of the show were opened early for the special visitors, and smiles glowed from painted faces as the children did everything from fish for trout to hang out with Chester the Cheetah.
The children range in age from 6 to 20, and each were accompanied by a teacher or child-life therapist from the hospital. They take a field trip nearly every Friday to get the kids back in the community, according to staff member Katie Barber.
Their first stop was at the Fujfilm Trout Pond, where they caught trout and had their photos taken at the Fujifilm booth. Next up was face painting, where they were visited by Chester the Cheetah as well as the Energizer Bunny.
The kids then toured the boat show before leaving the event with bags full of goodies, including Fujifilm bandannas, FLW Tour caps, Castrol balls, Energizer Bunny hats and a variety of other items to take back with them to the Children’s Hospital facility, where they all reside.
“It was a great experience for the kids,” Barber said. “They got hands-on experience, and we truly enjoyed it.”
The Children’s Hospital in Richmond benefits from Children’s Miracle Network fundraisers. Following Friday’s weigh-in at the FLW Tour Championship, Energizer Batteries donated $25,000 to the Children’s Miracle Network to recognize the FLW Tour’s maintenance of at least a 98 percent live-release rate of all weighed fish during the season.
