Heavyweight redfish should be warming up to spring temperatures when the Eastern Division heads to Mayport, Fla., in late April. That’s the word from veteran fishing guide, Capt. Vic Tison of Jacksonville, Fla.
“April is a great month,” Tison said. “Water temperatures are going to be warming up and the fish are going to be active. I expect there will be a lot heavy fish brought to weigh-in.”
Tison predicts there will be a strong topwater and jerkbait bite in progress over skinny water flats and oyster reefs from the St. John’s River to Nassau. The area encompasses more than 300 creeks, guts and marshy inlets to accommodate the large field. Teams will be allowed to weigh in two fish per day, 18 to 27 inches in length.
Tison’s call: 30-plus pounds to win.
