Find the bait and you’ll find ol’ spot tails. In a nutshell, that’s how local pro Greg Devault said the field should approach the upcoming FLW Redfish Series event set for July 22-23 in Charlotte Harbor, Fla.

“The fish should be schooled up and feeding pretty good, mostly on crabs and small bait fish,” Devault said. “They will be pretty chunky, too. I’m expecting to see some hefty bags at weigh in.”

Key patterns: Devault suggests working shallow bays early during incoming tides with spoons, topwaters and 1/8-ounce jigs. Look for the fish around underwater potholes on flats in 1 to 2 feet of water. Reds will make the move towards deeper water about mid morning. Devault said the fish should be holding around the outer edges of underwater sand bars in 3 to 4 feet of water.

Devault’s call: 28-30 pounds to win it.
