A purse of $115,000 will be on the line in the 2005 Wal-Mart FLW Walleye League Finals set for Sept. 8-10 on the Mississippi River in Winona, Minn. That’s mucho money. And according to Minnesota walleye pro Troy Robinson of Becker, it could take an equally big sack of walleyes or saugers to claim the richest check.
“It’s a great fishery, and it should be a good tournament if the river is in good shape and the weather cooperates,” Robinson said.
The pro expects to see several patterns at work.
Two of his favorites are drifting jigs around eddies on the backside of wing dams and trolling floater jigs (three-way rigs) along the main channel breaks in 12 to 14 feet of water. Minnows dragged behind a Lindy rig also could produce some quality fish.
Robinson’s call: 40 pounds to make the top 15; 65 to 70 pounds to win.
